The September Spritz

The September Spritz

By: Ashlyn Walters / Southern Hospitality Company

September is such an in-between month. We are ready for fall, but the weather has not quite gotten the message.

This fig, lemon, and elderflower spritz is exactly what I want to drink right now. It is light and refreshing enough for a hot afternoon, with just enough fig, honey, and thyme to hint at the season ahead.

Ingredients

1 ripe fresh fig

¾ ounce fresh lemon juice

½ ounce elderflower liqueur

¼ ounce thyme honey syrup (recipe below)

3 ounces Prosecco

1 ounce sparkling water

Ice

Laser Engraved Glassware

Cane Tray

Instructions

Muddle the fig with the lemon juice, elderflower liqueur, and thyme honey syrup.

Fill the glass with ice, then add the Prosecco and sparkling water. Stir gently and garnish with a fresh fig slice, lemon peel, and small sprig of thyme.

Serve it in one of our frosted cups for an easy September happy hour.

Thyme Honey Syrup

Combine ¼ cup honey, ¼ cup water, and 4 to 5 fresh thyme sprigs in a small saucepan. Warm over low heat, stirring until the honey dissolves. Remove from the heat and let it steep for 15 minutes. Discard the thyme and allow the syrup to cool before using.

Store it in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
