Blooming Creativity: A Floral Arranging Party
By: Southern Hospitality Company

Julie and her friends, affectionately known as the Wine Wenches, have a bond that spans decades. These women have raised their kids in adjacent neighborhoods, often gathering for spontaneous wine nights or long dinners, where the conversation flows as freely as the wine. Their friendship was cemented over shared experiences and a love for laughter, and it wasn’t long before they playfully dubbed themselves the Wine Wenches—a name that has stuck, full of playful mischief and a whole lot of heart.
This time, Julie wanted to try something different. Instead of their usual wine night, she decided to host a floral arranging party. A beautiful way to celebrate friendship, creativity, and the simple joy of spending time together, the event quickly became the talk of the Wine Wenches.
The Details That Matter
Julie’s dining room was transformed into a floral haven, setting the stage for an afternoon of creativity and fun. The white tablecloth was topped with kraft paper, an essential touch for easy cleanup, so the ladies could focus entirely on their floral masterpieces. At each seat, Julie had thoughtfully placed a glass vase, tied with white grosgrain ribbon and finished off with a personalized leaf-green Savannah wreath gift tag, giving each vase a unique, personalized touch. The ladies were also gifted linen aprons to keep their clothes clean as well as a pair of garden scissors. It was clear from the start that Julie’s floral party would be as much about the thoughtful details as the creativity.
In the corner of the room, Julie had created a whimsical backdrop of 3D crepe paper flowers in shades of pink, coral, white, and green. This playful feature was designed not just for decoration, but as the perfect photo spot. The Wine Wenches couldn’t resist pausing to snap a few photos before diving into their floral arrangements.

A Floral Palette of Colors and Textures
For the floral arrangements, Julie selected an impressive variety of flowers, ranging from hot pink roses, blue hydrangeas, and pink and orange tulips to stock, daisies, baby’s breath, and lush greenery. The bunches of flowers were arranged in a standing floral display stand. The table was a riot of color—delicate pastels and vibrant hues, soft textures and bold statements, each flower inviting the group to experiment with shape and scale.
Tip from Julie: “When you’re designing an arrangement, mix different colors, textures, and sizes. A variety of flowers helps create balance and dimension. Don’t be afraid to experiment with what feels right!”
Julie’s floral arranging party was about celebrating each individual’s creativity. The women were encouraged to design their own arrangements, giving them the freedom to express their personalities through their choice of blooms. Some went for a more minimalist look, focusing on white roses and greenery, while others leaned into the vibrant colors, playful shapes, and whimsical vibes. Julie herself stayed true to her classic style, using blue hydrangeas for her arrangement, which fit perfectly with her home’s traditional aesthetic.

Floral Arranging Tips from Julie
Julie didn’t just host the event—she also played the role of expert floral designer, guiding her friends through the process. With years of experience, she shared some pro tips on how to make their floral creations stand out:
- Embrace creativity: Floral design is all about experimenting—try mixing unexpected colors or flower types to create something one-of-a-kind!
- Start with greenery: It’s the perfect base for your arrangement, helping create structure and framing your flowers.
- Mix sizes for drama: Use larger blooms like hydrangeas or roses for focal points and smaller flowers like tulips and daisies to fill in gaps and add balance.
- Layer your flowers: Begin with bigger blooms and work your way down to smaller ones for depth and texture.
- Trim stems at an angle: A clean cut ensures your flowers drink more water and last longer.

Sips and Bites to Keep the Creative Juices Flowing
No floral arranging party would be complete without delicious drinks and snacks to keep the creative energy high. Julie made sure to elevate the experience with a beautiful and well-stocked bar, a nod to the Wine Wenches’ love for great drinks.
At the heart of the bar was an elegant champagne bucket filled with perfectly round sphere ice balls made from custom ice molds—an eye-catching and practical addition that kept the drinks cool without diluting the flavor. Alongside, an acrylic engraved pitcher filled with refreshing citrus-infused water added a pop of brightness, perfect for hydrating between sips of something a little stronger.
The group enjoyed homemade limoncello, which Julie had lovingly prepared ahead of time. Paired with prosecco, this delightful concoction turned into a refreshing limoncello spritz that was just the right balance of sweet and bubbly—perfect for an afternoon of crafting floral masterpieces. The foil-stamped cocktail napkins added a stylish touch, subtly tying the drink station together.

The Wine Wenches know how to throw a party, and their snack spread was equally impressive. Each guest was asked to bring a heavy appetizer, and they didn’t disappoint. The colorful variety of dishes looked almost too beautiful to eat—almost. The ladies created a grazing board that offered something for everyone, including:
- Prosciutto and melon, a sweet and savory pairing that was a crowd favorite.
- Strawberry goat cheese crostini’s, with tangy cheese and fresh strawberries on toasted bread, bringing the perfect combination of creamy and crunchy.
- Rosemary focaccia, freshly baked and served with olive oil for dipping—simple but packed with flavor.
- Warm olive and feta dip, a Mediterranean-inspired dish that was as comforting as it was delicious.
- Heirloom and burrata puff pastry, a rich, savory bite that looked just as indulgent as it tasted.
- Salmon crudo, light, fresh, and a hit among those who love seafood.
- Lemon ricotta olive oil cake, a sweet treat to finish off the afternoon with a burst of citrus flavor.
Each dish was thoughtfully crafted, with vibrant colors and fresh ingredients that mirrored the beautiful floral arrangements being created at the table.

A Memorable, Creative Day with the Wine Wenches
As the afternoon came to a close, each Wine Wench walked away with a gorgeous floral arrangement that reflected their personality and style. Julie’s floral arranging party was more than just a creative gathering—it was a chance to celebrate friendships, share laughs, and make new memories.
